I finally got my boat back from the yard after waiting 2 months for a new rudder. What a great day to be back on her..............however the transmission cable linkage broke on the way to the slip. Can anyone tell me how this needs to be replaced? The end by the shifter seems to be fixed down in the pedastal. Does this end (i.e. both ends) need to be fixed in place? I have figured out the rest of the system, but not how to get down in the pedastal to remove or attach a new cable. Do I have to remove the wheel to access it or do I not need to fix the shifter end in place and just run a new cable down to the transmission? Thanks for any help.

Hope this Helps

Glad your back in the water. I've never had your problem and really don't have any on hand advice, however, if you have an Edson system, the attached link is their site that has diagrams of the unit. Might give you some idea on how to get to it. Good Luck!

Fixed !

After consulting with some friends and the Edson web page I figured out what I needed to do and fixed it with relative ease, but longer than I would have liked (what isn't on a boat). Briefly, you have to pull the wheel, releass tension on the steering cables, lift the chain off the steering gear that runs in the pedastal, run the cable down ti the transmission, and then figure out how to put a long cotter pin in a small hole at arms length down in the steering pedastal in order to stabilize the end of the cable. I am sure I could it again in about half the time. It did shift the first time though. Thanks for the help.
