I actually have an Oday 27 with a Universal Engine. My problem is when the engine is idle and I push into forward gear the engine almost dies and the vibration is heavy when in forward motion. On the other hand when I go into reverse I have no issues at all with performance. It is almost like the engine is having a tough time turning the shaft for some reason or another in the forward motion. With this problem I have noticed a decrease in forward motion obviously as well as an increased temperature within the engine. Has anyone experienced this or have any suggestions as to why the shaft is not turning easily as it should? Bearing problem maybe? Thanks, John

had a similar problem

My boat developed a vibration when in gear that was so severe I stopped using the boat and had myself towed to boat yard. Won't give you the run-down of problems, but the bearing needed to be replaced, the shaft also and the engine was very much out of alignment. My guess is a bearing problem - it may be turning in one direction more easily than the other....

did it require an engine haul?

Did your work require a complete engine haul out or was it a faily minor repair? Thanks for the information. Very helpful, John

boat haul, not engine pull

The boat got hauled. The shaft removed enough to see that it needed to be replaced. But since the bearing was wedged in pretty good the shaft was cut (on a 37 the shaft won't go past the rudder if the bearing is in the strut.) The cut shaft was taken out to a propeller outfit and the new shaft was available the next day. Once the new shaft was in and painted, and the boat was back in the water, the engine was realigned. But this did not involve pulling the engine. The engine mounts adjust to align the engine.
