How often should transmission fluid/oil be replaced? I change the engine oil every 60-75 hours or at least once per year, but not sure about transmission.
I change the oil every 50 hours, and the transmission every 250 hours. Be sure to use quality oil like mobil delvac or shell rotella oil. I use synthetic transmission fluid seems to hold up very well..
I have heard all sorts of time frames for doing this,by calander time and running time.Every where from annual to 1000 hours. What I do (just my opinion for what it is worth) is to change it every other year.I think if you use your boat a "average" amount of time it is o.k.
The service intervals for the GM series of engines are as follows:Trans. (first time at 100 hrs) then every 300 hrs.Anti-freeze 500 hrs.Wash the air filter every 250 hrs.Oil Filter 300 hrs.Engine Oil (first 20 hrs, then next 30 hrs) then every 100 hrs .Be sure that you DO NOT overfill the transmission. Place the cap on the tranmission without screwing it down to check the oil level.
it isn't that hard to change so why not change it every time you change your oil? My westerbeke/yanmar dealer suggested that and that is what i do. the old addage applies ... It couldn't hurt FWIW
