Just changed out the oil on the 3gm30f, what a mess:eek:. Whoever designed the placemment of the oil filter shoud be ........
And Yes, I used the zip lock bag trick.

Anyway, My question has to do with the transmission dipstick.

There are no markings on mine. How do you determine when it's full???

I used a suction device for this, the same I use to change the engine oil. It was no big deal. I just put in the amount of oil per the manual and it seemed to be fine.

What is the ziplock method? Sounds like you are referring to the oil filter? I usually just unscrew it and put some paper towel underneath to catch the oil....

I used the suction device and that wasn't bad. The ziplock method is to place a large enough ziplock bag around the filter. The theory is the filter will drop into the bag and there should be no fuss no mess. :naughty::naughty: No No I say. Good thing I had a small catch pan beneath it to catch the runoff.

The transmission takes 0.3L of SAE 30 Oil. The dipstick has no markings at all. No full, No empty marks. How are you supposed to top off the oil if there is no reference mark.

What I did on the transmission was suck out the oil and put in that amount. I checked the dipstick to make sure it was at least touching and called it good. Not sure if there is a better way.

The trans on my 2GM20F also takes .3L of SAE 30 oil. The dipstick has a ring around the end near the bottom, perhaps 1/8th inch up that indicates the full line, but is hard to see when the oil is new and clear. The dipstick is also hollow and I know the trans is full when the new oil fills the hollow. Your dipstick may also be hollow so perhaps that is the indicator? In any event, I suggest you monitor how much oil you suck out and never put in more when changing the trans oil (unless you had reason to believe the trans was leaking).
