Transmission boils over

Most of the oil came out the dipstick tube three times. Found the breatherhole in the dip stick/tube was clogged. Could this be the culprit? The washer is a distorted alluminum washer, should it be a gasket/o ring? Thanks Ron

Hmmm!!

Afternoon: Kind of sounds strange about the breather hole in the dip stick being stopped up. If it was stopped up, how could any fluid be getting out of it, and what would it be stopped up with? This could be an indication of the inner workings of the transmission breaking down. I would suggest sucking all of the fluid out and checking if for particles. Mine has an metal washer and there is no problem. Could it be possible that the transmission is being overfilled and it's forcing out what it doesn't need? They only holds about a pint and it measured without screwing the dip stick in. If yours is generating enough heat to "boil" the fluid out, and there are particles in the fluid, there may be a more serious problem. Good luck with it, I'll be watching other responses for future reference. J.B. Dyer S/V Suspicion O34

Transmission overflow

Thanks for the reply, I believe the drain hole was plugged with dirt packed in by a wrench (maybe from the wrench). I had to clear it with a wire and then blew it out. The tranny was not overfull, and does not appear to have particles. I bought the boat a month ago and have taken two trips, both have dumped fluid. The surveyor added fluid and noticed it came out around the dipstick after the seatrial, but said no big deal. I noticed in the manual a warning about it getting painted over, then discovered it was blocked. I will change the fluid this week so I know for sure how much is in it and see where I stand.
