I am attempting to remove my Raymarine ST40 Depth Transducer to replace it with a ST60 unit. Apparently when Hunter Marine installed the transducer in the factory they decided that no one would ever want to remove the unit. The unit is caulked in with sealer that is a bear to remove. I have gotten down to where the caulk is even with the inner hull. Any suggestions on how to get down between the hull and the transducer to remove the caulk so I can drop the unit out of the bottom of the Model 260? I have thought about drilling into the caulk from the top to attempt to release the unit.

I had to remove a transducer from my 79 33'. I had to drill the center out of the old one and crush it in place before it would come out. Tom W.

Remove Thru-hull

CPT Tom, I just read an article about this in DIY Boater - they said you might have to grind the mushroom off from below then use a rubber mallet or block of wood and hammer to knock the upper part side to side. If you don't want to grind it, you could make two cuts from below with a jig saw or hacksaw blade parallel to the fitting then knock out the two pieces with a chisel and hammer.
