Transducer question

Time for another ill informed question. I followed the cable from my depth gauge to this:

I have not been brave enough to open it yet. Curious I checked out the hull and found this:

Firstly, is this my transducer? Secondly, is there a way to ensure it is water tight without putting the boat in the water?

That looks like your transducer. You could fill the hull with water from the inside and see if it leaks. I don't see how you would test it from outside. It is not usually necessary to cut a hole in the hull for the transducer. You usually just need to seal it to the inside of the hull.
