transducer mounting

You recommended mounting a transducer with toilet ring wax. Is there anything in the wax that may degrade the face of the transducer? Simply mash the wax onto the hull, and then mash the transducer into the wax? Sounds too simple to be true.

That's temporary at best and done as a means of ensuring proper location prior to permanent install. Although the sounder will work, it is by no means permanent. Assuming it is new and you have the installation manual, follow it.

I would not use a wax ring to mount anything below the waterline.

Transducer

To set our new unit I made a round dam out of duct tape, filled it with clear sealant from HD, then pressed the transducer into the muck until cured. Just make sure there are no air bubbles. The new unit works great.
