Transducer location

I,ve recently purchased a 1984 O'Day 222. It came without a depth gage or speed indicator. I purchased a Navman combo with two transducers and need two find out where the best place to mount them is. The instructions that came with it suggest that I mount them on the center line in front of the keel but I have a feeling the the hull at that position may be too thick. Does anyone know of a better place?I would like two mount them as foward as I can(no sense have a depth gage in the back telling me I'm in shallow water when it's too late) Thanks in advance to any reply

speed must be in clear water, not water that is rushing past keel which alters water speed due to displacement iof the water. depth must be verticle with sea bottom so must be on flatest part of bottom or a dam /box be built from inside hull to mount transducer/cooking oil/water. cornelb@doacs.state.fl.us
