Transducer advice needed

Does anyone have any advice regarding depth finder transducers? Being of sound mind and reasonable intelligence, I would prefer NOT to cut a hole in the hull of my Oday 20 (1975). Transom mounted transducers are reputed to not work well since the stern of a sailboat sometimes comes up out of the water. That leaves the inside-the-hull mounted puck. Any problems here? Advice is welcome.

I recently contacted Garmin on this same matter and was told that most of the transducers they sell are epoxied to the inside of the hull. This is the route I am going to take as, I too, don't want another hole in the hull.

I have looked into this a number of diffrent ways, and as suggested by John, gluing is a possiblity. Check the related link below for a lengthy description of how to do it.Of course, the problem I have with this is then I don't get the fancy water temp and speed indicators from a Garmin transducer...I've been trying to figure out a way to mount it to the keel...nothing yet. If I had a swing keel, I could run the wire up with the keel control cable...Josh

transducer mount made easy

I just installed a transducer on my 26 o'day which was for a depth finder. the manuel said to glue it in but i have worked in the marine industry for some time and all you have to do is silicone it down just behind the keel in the center.make sure it's clean and you press it down good to remove all air bubbles.it will work great.

I epoxied mine in front of the keel

in a decently flat spot under the vee berth ... works great on a 272.
