Transatlantic Advice???

Hello all,

I am sailing a boat from Sweden to Greenland Nuuk via. Scotland and Iceland to reach the Northwest passage. I am in the process of trying to locate a good weather router who is knows the area for the Sweden-Scotland-Iceland-Greenland bit. We have one for the NWP. Any suggestions?

I don't have an answer to your question but I must wish you good luck throughout your voyage. I am guessing the crew of the s/v Ocean Watch may be able to help with your request.

"Down Denmark Strait"

Can't answer your question, but... sometimes reading what others have done might be of interest.

"Down Denmark Strait" is about the voyage of the "Reindeer", a 43 foot sloop, that made the trip in 1976.

Their route was from Hammerfest in Norway to Spitsbergen, then Siglufjord in Iceland, and then Frederiksdal, Greenland, via Prins Christians Sund (where they ran aground), and then St Anthony in New Foundland....

The book has a lot of pictures of icebergs, fog, maps of the route, etc.

The good part about that route is you'll be going with the current. And with global warming there may be fewer icebergs, or who knows, maybe more?

If you cant find any router specializing in the high latitudes forecasts, you might want to direct contact Herb Hilgenberg / Southbound II who does primarily mid latitude routing. Most of the transAtlantic passage makers use Herb for their weather routing - no charge.

If you direct contact you might make arrangement for him to beam his antenna to your position in the higher latitudes at scheduled intervals.

Herb is on HF/SSB frequency12.359 mHz. beginning at 1930 UTC for 'check-in' and begins forecast/routing at 2000 UTC.

I have been in touch with David from Ocean Watch and Eric from Fiona. They have provided great information!!!!!

Thanks for your advice I will try Herb out even though I hear he is very particular that he is good!
