Can any one tell me the correct fluid to use in my gear box. I think it is a Hurth Gear box. Thanks Suds

If it is

you use either the Ford ATF or Dexron (any variety, i.e., Dexron I, II, or III) Just don't mix 'em. If you don't know what you have, that's good! Think of it this way, if you have to change it, you have to replace it all anyway! Suck out the old stuff and unless you have a replacement jug of Dexron MINUS III that your PO left you, just buy a quart of the newest transmission fluid of your choice and KEEP IT - it'll last for a few years. ATF is still just that, and Dexron's up to Mark III. Be careful about the dipstick. Reading it properly requires being just set on the top, not screwed down. It doesn't take very much transmission fluid to fill. Measure what you take out in, say, a plastic cup. Put the same amount back in. Interesting link from the C34 website: http://www.c34.org/faq-pages/faq-transmission-position-sailing.html Stu

tranny fluid

I would just check with a dealer to be sure I just put a new engine in this year and in my surprise they require straight 30 wt oil in the tranny

Trans Fluid

I have a Kanzaki and the dealer said straight 30w. Don't know about Hurst...do they have a web site or 800# you could call? Also, heed Stu's comment about setting the dip stick on top of the unit, do not tighten it, check the reading while it is sitting there.

Hurst requires transmission fluid

NOT oil. I noted the options in my earlier post. Sure, different transmission manufacturers require different fluids. Find out what transmission you have and make sure before you do anything. As far as websites, in this day and age, I would venture to suggest that www.companyname.com (or .net) would suffice. Stu
