Sorry, another silly question from a new owner... On my 92 M26S, do I need to remove the outboard when trailoring? I did "RTFM", byt the copy I have doesn't mention anything (at all) regarding the outboard. Thanks, Chris
I remove mine to take the strain off of the mount area during all that bouncing around and to keep the load distributed differently. I have a van to stow it in.Several people tow with it mounted - it's just my personal preference.
My transome is cracked around the motor well, so I remove mine.I mounted a 2x4 inside the upper rung of the ladder on the fron of the trailer, and I mount my motor up there when trailering.I copied this idea form another guy on macgregorboats.com.
The tounge is too light, so I only tow at 60 mph or less. above that the trailer starts to walk...but it just took too long to setup when I pulled it off (elect start).-I added a wood block to help support the load on the outside of the transom, and also beefed up the inside transom.
If we are travelling a short distance (300 miles or less) I leave it on. If we are going a long distance, I take it off and put it in the back of the truck (hard cover).3200 mile round trip coming up starting next week, so she'll be off.
OK, spill it - where ya' heading - lets get the jealousy over with!I'll be thinking of you guys while I scrape and epoxy the bottom (see link)...It's not 3200 miles but at least 3200 strokes with the scraper!Chris
Hi Chris,be careful with that black stuff. It is very toxic. You should wear a dust mask when scraping.BTW, I finished sealing the deck joint gap and no more leaks!!!!.Good luck
With my V222, the boat trailered very light in front with the motor on. This causes fishtailing. Best to take the motor off and put in in the car or mount on the front of the trailer. Much safer, and you can safely get on the boat without the rig rearing up.
MrBill,Just put a few 24's in the V berth to add weight. Drink it after sailing and buy more 24's on the way back. I told (lie to) the wife it's for stability for the car.24's are great way to add weight. Just don't use the Coors / Bud light. Guiness will be better.
Install a "anti sway bar" it will take care of the problem. But to make my boat sail better and tow more easily when carrying extra gas in the rear compartment I filled several 1 gallon plastic bottles with water and put them under the vee berth at the front. Works like a charm AND if I ever ger stranded offshore I have lots of stale water to drink.Novelman
