I just purchased a 1989 CAT 22 wing keel that came with a trailor. While the boat is in good shape the trailor is not. All the carpet has rotted off the bunks and the once painted trailor is covered in rust. While most of the rust appears on the surface and has not eaten through in any spots I have detected. These appear to be the original wood bunks, so I'm concerned about their integrity. My plan is to have the trailor sandblasted, repainted and apply new bunks and carpet. I have no idea about the status of the braking and electrical systems. I was wondering if anyone had taken on such a project and what were their results? Is it worth pursuing trying to salvage this trailor or go in search of one that may be in better shape?

I rebuilt mine

When I brought my boat home, I was concerned that my trailer would break in half. I spent the first year working on my trailer. I installed a new tounge, sanded and painted it, new wheels, brakes, bunks & carpet, winch, lights, and installed keel guides. I think that if one paid to have this done, they could purchase a new trailer cheaper. You may want to look at the cost of a new trailer vs the rebuild. I attached a link from the Catalina 22 Website.

Buy a new trailer

I had my trailer re-built last year. They sand blasted; painted; added a new tounge extension; re-wired; and re-worked the bunks and supports. for a few hundred more I could have had a new trailer built. I still have the same old tires/wheels, brakes, axle, etc. If I had it to do over again I would get as much for the old one as possible and buy new.
