I have been having trouble with too much tongue weight and someone suggested that when the boat was off the trailer to move the winch post back 1/2" at a time until I was satified with performance. This move I am not real sure about, but it would get more weight on the back of the trailer and lessen the tongue weight. Any suggestions.

Can You Move Stuff Inside the Boat?

If you can move anything heavy from the front to the back it could make a huge difference.

you should check tongue weight

with a scale first. It should be about 10% of the total weight. On a loaded 240 thats going to be around 350 - 400 pounds. If its too high, like Rick said, try moving stuff around.

Let the Trailer Take the Load

This topic was discussed some year ago. I still think that a lot of people are driwing around with far too much load on the tounge. After all the trailer is designed to bear the load of the boat. If you want your car behave like a drunken snake, just fill the trunk with bricks or press its rear down with a high tounge load. We use a SAAB 9000 -97 which seems to be a small car compared to most of what you americans use. Tounge load 100-200 pounds works fine, this summer we drowe 1000 miles including Norwegian serpentine roads 3500 ft above sea level without problems. Maximum speed for trailers in Scandinavia is 50 mph.
