I'm looking for a trailer for my 1984 Hunter 22 (fixed keel). I'm having trouble locating any type of dealer. Do you guys have any ideas, sources, etc.? Thanks.

possible trailer source

I have a 22 with the centerboard and am presently looking for a trailer myself. I do happen to know that my boat fits relatively well on a catalina 22 trailer. You may want to compare the draft of your boat to the draft of the Catalina 22 fixed keel version and if similar you could visit a Catalina dealer and ask if they sell trailers. Other than that you might have to go to a manufacturer like Triad trailers and have a trailer custom made. Good luck, I am having a tough time myself finding a trailer

Used trailers are hard to come by. I'd like to find one for my old 25. At this point, I think my best bet is to find another project boat with an appropriate trailer. Fix that boat up and decide which one to keep, selling the other without the trailer. I'm also thinking about making a trailer. I've done some research and it looks like total out of pocket expense will be a little less than $1000. Fortunately, I have a friend who is a certified welder and another with a large barn to work in. Triad wanted more than $3000 for a trailer for my boat.

find a used trailer guy

Yesterday I bought a used trailer for the 18' launch I am building. I had looked & looked at various trailer mfg. places & at the papers for a used one before being referred by two independed sources to this guy. When I got there I was amazed. This is where all the used boat trailers go. Apparently this guy buys them up for $100 or $200 bucks, & then either converts them into a flatbed for sale, customizes them for a different boat for a buyer, or sells them outright to folks like me for a profit. I got a 20ft single axle trailer in fair to good condition for $550. He had double axles starting at $800. I know the guy made a killing off me, but hey... he had all the trailers! -- Craig Coffman Winds of Change, H40.5

Have any sailboat trailers?

Craig did that guy have any bunk style sailboat trailers? What part of the country is he in? Right now I was planning to buy a powerboat trailer with rollers and convert it to fit my boat with bunks.

all sorts of trailers

Dan: The used trailer guy I was sent to (Stone trailers in OKC, OK) had all sorts of trailers... some would almost certainly work for a sailboat (it's hard to guuess what was on them before) but I saw several that were big enough & pretty close to set up right to take my old Clipper Marine 27' centerboarder. Just in case your interested, the telephone # for this guy is: 405-946-9801 I think if you gave him your measurements over the telephone he would go out & check what he has. -- Craig Coffman Winds of Change, H40.5

Tropic Trailers

I found a company called Tropic Trailers in FL that quoted me $1495 for a single axle trailer to fit my Hunter 22 or $1795 for double axle version. Their number is 1-800-897-4430 or www.tropictrailer.com Does anybody know if these are good trailers?

Trailer

Call Greg Emereson at Hunter and I can steer you in the right direction for a trailer. You will be surprised as to my knowledge plus the fact I can tell you not to ride out a 28 during Hurrican Floyd on the Pamlico Crazy Dave

Double Axle Trailer

I would strongly recommend that you stick with a dual axle trailer. I converted mine after a couple of 50 mile trips! After conversion, total weight at trcuk scale was 4960 lbs!. Extra axle may have been 150 lbs. Tire rating is about 1800 lbs per tire. You do the math... Paul
