I have a 1989 Hunter , am very pleased with the boat, do not like launch retrieve, has anyone changed from bunks to rollers, ? I have heard that if a boat sits for long periods, on rollers that hull can be damaaged, any and all advice will be appreciated, Regards Mike

Mike;Your boat is a wing keel which sits high onto the trailer and as a result, it is more difficult to retrieve and Launch. There is a trailer tongue extension but very marginal for this boat. First you need to know your rampsif they are long enough for launching.Secondly, you could add a longer entension onto the trailer, thus you would not be submerging your tow vehicle into the water. Make sure you rinse the boat and trailer off each time you submerse into salt water.Regarding bunks versus rollers. If you do add the longer trailer extension, that would solve your problem getting the boat off. Adding rollers to the trailer would allow the boat to come offand onto the trailer easier. There are two primary considerationsfor use of rollers to avoid the hull dimpling in.First, you need a multitude of rollers and secondly, the weight of the boat is to be supported by the keel tray and not the rollers. The bunk boards and rollers merely serve to support the boat from tipping sideways. Either way, there is some cost to figure in.

Retrieve question

I am in my 1st year with my H23 (1992), also a winged keel model. I launched it the 1st time with no problems. Are there any major problem (or tidbits of knowledge to avoid problems) with the rertieval. The boat has been in water since May, but as I recall, the wing slips under the bottom of the center slot that holds the keel. Thanks Gary

gary, hope that you recieve this, the boat is not easy to center on the trailer, the wieght of the boat as pointed o ut by some one else is supposed to be supported by the keel , we have encountered several short ramps with shorter docks, when you are in deep enough to launch the dock is behind you , so it is not all that fun we are into our 6th year of the process so i was just wanting to make the task easier, the hunter rep said that the bunks were ideal, and rollers not suggested due to thickness of laminate, i have a friend with older oday who usses rollers with no problem mabye i will buy an oday, there should be aneasier way , Mike you can emial me at mmsailor@aol.com
