Recently purchased a 1990 Catalina 22 fixed keel (wing) with trailer. Never have had the boat on the trailer and wondered how easy/difficult this will be due to the fixed keel. Would appreciate hearing from anyone who has done this before I tie up a boat ramp. Thanks.

trailoring wing keel.

Be prepared to float 22 on & off trailor when ramping unless you have good roller-rigged trailor. If you have a bunk - rigged trailor just figure on getting trailor in deep enough to float boat on & off. With one or two such trials you should become handy with ramping it. Remember, deep water at ramp & 2 people to hold lines fore & aft while pushing it off trailor or cranking it on. Enjoy. It wont be all that difficult.

Been there, done that!

I've had my wing-keel C22 for about 3 years and have launched and retrieved it several times (always by myself). While I have heard of people doing this without extending the trailer tongue, I have always had to do this. This adds to the time required to launch/retrieve. I will admit, I am envious of the people that can do this in 30 minutes, but for me it always seems to take at least an hour (but not much more). I would suggest you get one person to help and try to do it when the ramp is not busy (i.e., not on a Sat or Sun afternoon). I recently trailered my wing keel from Oregon to Colorado. While this was my first experience trailering this boat such a long distance, I found bringing my favorite toy to it's new home a lot of fun. Dave B. s/v Dream Catcher C22 14805 Denver, Colo.
