Try Berkeley Marina or Emeryville Cove or Emeryville Marina. There are 2 others a bit south of there. Oyster Marina and Brisbane Marina.

SFR,

Have you considered another site to drop in at? We just finished up a few months in the Bay area. Had a very good time. We splashed in Napa valley. Much lower cost and they had a storage yard for our trailer &.....

You can read a bit about it on our position reports web page at;

Grand Marina in Alameda. The launch ramp is right up the street.

Marina Bay in Richmond has a launch ramp right at the marina. It might be however that trailer and car parking is quite expensive (maybe $10-20 per day) so at this time of year you could even consider putting in somewhere on the delta e.g. Bethel Island or Rio Vista and making your way down to the bay from there. That is a fun and interesting trip in itself.

The OP said "Sausalito"
Just providing options... :)

He also said, "explore the bay for a couple of weeks". To me, that eludes to sailing around to other areas. hence my not restricting my reply to only one area option.

The Bay is a wonderful place to explore! So many places to visit!!! Even though we lived there for years, we STILL love to spend a night or two at Pier 39 :D. Sometimes it's fun to play tourist, and if you are in the know, and have dock key in your pocket, some of the shops there give as much as a 50% discount!!!

All of the above posters have offered suggestions that have merit, some with the forethought and perspicacity to understand that launching and vehicle storage fees may be an issue.

If I were advising someone coming to the Bay for exploration, especially from as far as Canada, I would suggest not staying in any one marina but moving from place to place.

Brisbane is an excellent choice for the south bay (inexpensive and good facilities). Foster City is worth a visit. I would recommend against the East Bay South of Alameda because of depth problems.

The gem is South Beach Harbor, especially if you are a good walker and/or bring a bicycle but it is maybe double the price of other places.

Berkley is certainly worth a visit and Richmond, located at the site of the old Kaiser shipyards, has historical interest. There is a great walking/biking path that runs from Richmond to Emeryville.

Depending on whether you have ornithological or fishing interests a trip into the rivers, Napa, Petaluma, San Joaquin and Sacramento might be enjoyable. In the cold months the bay will actually be warmer because to the east it can be foggy, grey and cold. In the warm months there is hot hot weather and fresh water swimming in the delta.

Johnb,

VERY GOOD put! I agree to every bit of it.

One stop I might add, if time permits, and a trip to Napa is not an option, would be Treasure Island.

You can anchor or catch a slip for a night or two. On the island, an old military base, you can find a wealth of wineries and some provisioning. we spent a few days at the marina and used the anchorage a few times for base to head to other places. And the view of the new Bay Bridge is something to see.
