I just got a 22 and as I recall, the rudder on mine does not swing up (like when running aground), so you can't swing it up and lock it. That being the case, we want to be real careful that our rudders do not have a close incounter with terra firma. The gudgens (thingys you put the rudder pins in) are not that strong. If you launch in the same place all the time and obviously using the same trailer, I would try backing the boat in with someone watching the rudder. If it comes close, bag it. If there is plenty of room....why not leave it on? Keep in mind if you back up quickly, the rudder will slam over to one side and try to turn the boat. D
