Is that really a trailer, or is it a cradle that has been converted into a "trailer"? Looks like they may have welded the V shaped portion with the hitch to the front of a cradle. I'd be concerned that it would snap in two in a spectacular fashion.
With regard to the owner saying the boat has a solid hull, he may mean that it is solid fiberglass, and not a "cored" hull (fiberglass and balsa sandwich). He wins that argument conclusively.
Your best bet is to sell the boat as is where is, or part it out.
In real life, I'd have to say, "gosh, that was bad luck...the guy that sold it to you should be ashamed, and give you your money back". On the internet, I can tell you that you stepped in a pile of poo with your eyes wide open and got what you had coming. Don't buy a boat of that size without seeing it, inspecting it carefully, and having it professionally surveyed.
