Trailering H26/H260WB vs H260K/H270

What are the benefits and drawbacks associated with trailering these models? Is it even practical to trailer sail a fixed keel 26?If the boat is trailered, then I need to get a tow vehicle at a greater cost than if I just leave the boat at a lake and pay to relocate her every few years. Everything's a trade-off. ;-)Thanks,Bill

Trailering is the reason WB was born

There are trade offs in everything but as has been discussed in the past, trailering with the 26/260 WB is extremely easy and in my opinion the sailing ability of the WB version is great. I don't think you'd want to trailer a fixed keel very long due to the extra weight and height.If you do decide to go with the fixed keel you may still want a trailer depending on what lake you're on for haul out, etc. At our club we have folks with 30-34 footers that have trailers simply for that reason. As long as you stay at the lake even a regular pick up can haul an H34 out.Jim

Additional Unconvenient Maintenance

If you leave a boat in the water (either salt or fresh) you have to paint the bottom (there's your truck) and the additional cost of keeping the bottom clean montlhy. Also it is more convenient and less costly to do maintenance at home then in a slip. (now your giving up your luxury truck or SUV)

Overlooking Important Aspect of Marina...

... and that is increased sailing time. You get to the marina and can be sailing in 15 minutes. How much is 15% more time on the water worth to you? Plus how many times would you have gone sailing if you could have done it in less time. Gee I don't have all day, but I do have 3-4 hours and I can get in a good little sail in that time. I agree there are many and distinct advantages to trailering, but during the season, I think the best of both worlds would be to have the boat in the water some place close to home. This allows you to use it with short notice and still haul it to a different location for a change of scenery.

270 trailering

Do not trailer a 270 (keel) with less than a diesel or V10 pickup. You are best to use a sling for haul-in and haul-out. The advantage?Keep the boat in a slip for the season. Take it home and save some money (slip fees) and do your maintenance during the off-season. Plus enjoy a better performing boat while sailing.
