DID YOU SAY 120 LBS TONGUE WT???

Must be a mistake. Recommended TW on a boat trailer is 10 percent. That would be at least 1000lbs TW.

Towing with a Tahoe

A buddy of mine tows his 31' Contender with his Tahoe. 3500# dry weight + up to 240 gallons of fuel + 2 250hp motors + 3 axle trailer puts it up around 10,000lbs. He has the towing package and pulls it pretty easily around here (Charleston, SC - not too many hills). I know he doesn't trust towing it much because tires blow out way too easily on the trailer even with the weight distributed across the 6 tires. If it were me, I'd probably hire it out. I have a Tahoe myself and wouldn't want the headache.

Hey, Joe.

Are you the same "Joe" who is sailing the cat in the video on lighthouselanding.com? Tim

Right on, Joe

You've done what we're intending to do. We don't have the time to spend driving to KY lake every weekend now. That's why we're moving the boat closer to home. In a few years, we expect to move the boat back to begin some serious cruising - in a bigger boat if this one doesn't suit us.

Come on , John, that question is much too clear

How can we argue and insult each other? Try Uship on the net. They have a bunch of small operators, most but not all insured, some very experienced, who bid on your hauling job. Lots of mom and pop operators with insurance and good equipment.

Anything over 8 feet wide needs permits.

My 28 foot Lancer is right at an 8 foot beam and can be towed. tom s/v GAIA

It's changed

Tom said, Anything over 8 feet wide needs permits. That’s changed in some or most states and the federal limit is now 102 inches or 8’ 6”. You can tow up to 10' wide with permits and no chase cars. Permits are easy to get. All the best, Robert Gainer

Good Luck

I hope all goes well whether you choose to move the boat yourself or hire it done. Joe

How is it hooked to the trailer?

Is it a pintle hook or a 2 5/16 ball? How well does it stop, that looks like a nice setup. Did you have someone make that trailer, you make it yourself, or are they readily available to the public?

Trailer

Mike, The Trailer is a Trail-n-Sail made by Road King Trailers. The dealer we bought it from has the trailers made for the boats. They could probably make a trailer for just about any boat. Ours is probably close to the max. of the boat size though. I put a class 5 trailer hitch on the truck which has a 2 5/16's ball and 2.5 inch receiver. The class 5 gives the hitch a 1200# tongue rating. The trailer stops surprisingly fast if needed with the six disk brakes. If you want the dealers name that sold the trailer email me off the list at tburdett at crazyburd dot com. Terry Wishfull
