Good day, First I would like to thank everyone who posts something on this web site, it has been a source of great information for us. I have a question: Is the O'day 23 a trailerable boat or not? We are interested in purchasing a "trailer-sailor", the O'day 23 seem to answer all our needs the only question is: Is it trailerable? I read some saying yes some saying no. I would like to know how many people actually trailer their boat? What vehicule are you using? I am thinking using a Chevy pickup with a small block 350. I towed J24 some years back and that was ok but we never used a ramp to launch and I am kind of worry not being able to pull the trailer with the boat out of the water! Is that justified? Alain, Anything is trailerable! It's just a matter of practicality, and I would consider the 23 to be so. I have a 22 which I do not trailer because I no longer need to but I have pulled it down the road with my Ranger, though launch and recovery required a bigger vehicle. In good condition the 350 ought to have no problems, ramps or otherwise. It's still a big object going down the road but within width and height limits.

Hi Peter, I am not quite sure why I am getting worried about towing it around, maybe all the reading is scaring me! We intend to probably leave the boat at the yard mast up and launch it from the ramp everytime to go sailing, but the intent of geting the O'day is definitely to be able to take the boat on the road, drive a few hours and enjoy all the lakes we have in Ontario Canada. Not being able to do that would be a great disapointment.

Hi, I trailer my O'day 23 on an ezroller trailer, pulling it with a 3/4 ton Ford van conversion. Although I am within 500lb of the max towing limit of the van, I have had no problems here in the foothills of the Sierra. The ezroller allows me to launch and retrieve the boat with only the back wheels of the van in the water...The stern lifts off a bit and the boat just rolls off the trailer...retrieving the boat is just as easy.. The hardest part of trailering the 23 is raising and lowering the mast, that sucker is heavy!! It takes us about half an hour to raise the mast, tune the rigging and launch the boat with two adults and 3 teenagers....

I launch and retrieve my "23" with my Ford Escape. It's a four wheel drive and I only launch in the spring and retrieve in th fall. A very good trailerable boat with the proper pulling vehicle. Two fairly strong people can step the mast.

We trailer our 23 and it takes about 45 min to launch and about an hour to retrive-step the mast and tie everything down. I would strongly advise a tandem axel trailer, six heavy duty straps, proper toung weight, good brakes and above all else take it slow. If any trailer you pull, boat or otherwise ever comes around on you you will be flipped over with a good chance of not surving it. After doing much work and adusting to my trailer I feel comfortable with the level of safety towing. We tow with a Ford Excursion so I am only at 1/2 my capacity. The longer the wheel base and the shorter the distance between your rear wheels and your hitch will also make a great difference in the sway you experiance on the road. Take short trips for a time until you get everything set up correctly. The 23 is a great boat enjoy. Fair winds from Scott "On Eagles Wings".

I tote mine on a tandem axle trailer to the lake (about 90 miles to where I leave it slipped) plus once or twice a year about 200 miles (1 way) to Flathead Lake. It trails just fine with my ½ ton GMC pick-up with the 5.7 l. and automatic transmission. And that includes a few long steep grades over the Continental Divide. As was mentioned earlier, set up your tongue weight correctly and take your time. You’ll be more than happy with your 23,they are a great boat. Shine On! Don
