I could not find it in the search feature, so here goes. My 79 swing keel 22 has a Trailrite trailer that the ID plate says made in 1979. I assume it came new with the boat. It has the extender tongue. Most of the data plate is unreadable. Does anybody know what the GVW was on the trailers Catalina sold with the 22 ??? Thanks, ___Grant.

My trailer is a 2015, but it claims to weigh 800 lbs. It is the same trailer Catalina Yachts sells with current production C22 Sports, so it is likely to be very similar in weight to your trailer.

Thanks, That is beefier than I expected, and I wonder if the older ones were lighter, but with a boat weight of 2400lbs and trailer weight of about 800lbs there is a good safety margin. I like safe. Thanks again, ____Grant.

Boats are like babies, they reach the world at different weighs and then they start gaining. The manufacturer published specs are just an approximation. Older boats which are kept in the water mat have absorbed a couple of hundred lbs. of water and then you have to add the outboard, water tank, porta-potty, fuel tank and other boat stuff. I remember seeing a posting where someone indicated that they had weighed a number of Catalina 22s and that the weight had varied from 2,200# to 3,000#. Best way is to go to a weigh station and get the actual weight of your rig for towing considerations.

I hope to get it in the water in a couple of weeks. I might go by the local rock quarry and get it weighed on the way and get the trailer weighed after launching. It would only be a few miles out of my way. Thanks ___Grant.

I get my rig weighed periodically at a nearby truckstop. I like to know what I'm really hauling back there, since my tow vehicle is just a V6 Tacoma 2WD. It's enough truck, but not "plenty". My boat weighs over 3300 lbs loaded.

After experiencing a couple blowouts, I thought it would be prudent to have my C-22 MK-II wing keel version weighed in her normal configuration going down the road. Cost me $5.00 each time I had it weighed on a certified truck scale, and total weight was a little over 4,600 Lbs. My Trail-Rite trailer with 15" load range E tires, including the spare was 1,100. The swing keel boats are lighter, the new design boats are generally the heaviest versions. I ended up with 15" wheels because I could only find load range E tires in 14" on the internet. I figured that it wouldn't be a lot of fun sitting in Winslow AZ waiting for tires to be shipped to my motel, so I went with 15" rims, and I can buy the correct range tires just about anywhere, if I need to. In the past several years we have towed our C-22 about 6,000 miles a year with several trips from San Diego to Florida and back, with no failures with the load range 15" tires. Maybe we're lucky, or maybe it's the correct tires,

Chances are, if you have any version C-22 other than an original swing keel boat, you're probably overloaded on the 14" tires that came with the boat trailer.

Have your boat weighed, I think you'll be surprised......

When I purchased my Sport in Fall 2006, it weighed 3120 pounds on/with trailer. At the time, I still had my New Design Wing Keel and it weighed 3580 pounds on/with trailer. Both boats had non-essential items removed. I've had one blow-out...it was a 90+ degree day and I was traveling at 70 mph. Now, I will not travel faster than 65 mph with boat in tow, and tires are replaced every 3 years, regardless of condition.

Catalina 22 Swing Keel San Diego
When I finish my rehab I will weigh my 82 swing keel at a truck stop, there is a certified scale in National City I have used before.
1st weight - Finished Hull on trailer with all hardware reinstalled, but no motor, batteries, mast/boom, rigging, sails, or gear. Basically just what is 'bolted' on to the boat by itself.
2nd weight - Finished sailboat with motor, batteries, mast/boom, sails, rigging, and gear; 'ready to sail'
3rd weight - Post launch I will weigh the empty trailer/truck to get my 'tare' weight.
On all trips to the scale I will disconnect the trailer so the truck is not on the scale, but somehow I doubt they will allow that. It would be nice to not have the truck's weight which can vary a little by fuel weight, but no big deal. When I do truck weights, I typically go on the scale with a full tank... only way to be sure.
