Trailer tongue weight

I have read other statements from other Venture Newport 23 owners that have had trouble with not enough tongue weight on there trailers which causes swaying while towing. The Trailrite trailer that came with the original boat has enough tongue weight when empty,(no boat)but, when loaded,(with boat)is almost O lbs. tongue weight.Especially if you have an 8 to 10 hp outboard kicker on the back. I've moved my battery forward,(under the V birth)and still have the problem. To correct the problem set your boat up with all appropiate gear then place a bathroom scale under the tongue jack wheel. Jack up the trailer behind the axle and place two jack stands,(one on each side of the frame). I forgot to mention that you have to take the boat and trailer down and weigh it first,(total weight). Now, keep moving the jack stands back until you have 7 to 10 percent of the total weight on the tongue. Have the spring hangers relocated so the axle is lined up with jack stands and that will fix the problem. It will make a world of differance and the boat won't hobby horse when you go over bumps.

Tongue weight

Hi Windrifter, If you have enought tongue, and you can move the winch post forward, that also will do it! Many will put the outboard up near the winch for travel also if there is room. Brian

Trailer 's

I have an M26, with a 50hp Honda 4 stroke. I would get a little sway in high wind, driving to fast, or when an 18 wheeler went by.I had the axel moved back 10 inches, and get a much better/safer tow.

Single axle

Do you feel that a single axle is safe for towing a cmbined boat/trailer load of over 3000#s, especially when it's as tall and has as much windage as a sailboat? I don't see many car trailers with only one axle, and they have a much lower CG, and a lot less windage! I feel like adding a second axle on my trailer will be a big improvement. Then the other questions..slippers or shackles..how far apart..how much tounge weight..I wish I knew of a good trailer design rescource. Does anyone have one?
