Trailer tires

It appears that almost all trailers for Catalina 22s are single axle models and mine is too. My question is in regards to the tires and their load rating. I have had the boat and trailer for over a year now and it has been kept in the water at a marina on a lake. Well this past weekend I decided to take it out and take it down the sound. On the way back over a 120 mile stretch I below both tires. I was able to replace them with the same style tire that was installed before and as before while properly inflated they look low and stressed. The old tires appeared in good shape before the trip(no dry rotting and good tread and checked pressure before leaving) What tires does everyone else have on their trailer and what is the load rating? I appreciate the help.

radial tires?

Did you replace the tires with bias ply or radial tires of the same size vs. "trailor" style tires? Trailor tires have stiffer sidewalls and passenger or light truck (LT) tires will not be a safe substitute for the proper tire style.

Make sure that the tires you use have 4ply sidewalls. Also jack up your trailer and set it on blocks when not in use.The tires will last much longer.

Tired Tires

Jim, I hope your blowouts weren't the cause of a major, or minor, disaster on the road! I have used standard trailor tires, I believe they are the 4-ply sidewall types mentioned, with a 1,750 pound load rating. They have been excellent for my 18 foot power boat and believe they are my tire of choice for the C-22 trailor as well. I am also due for new tires on my C-22 trailor as the current ones are making me VERY nervous! The local discount tire shop will be able to help with determining the best tires for your trailor. Good Sailing! Brad.

Thanks!

Thanks for everyone's help with the tire issue. It appears what I need is higher load "trailer" tires.
