What do you use for a stern tie down when trailering? A rope, straps, what seems to work best? Thanks Kevin

I was told

by Crazy Dave, not to tie down or that it wasn't necessary. I haven't used a tie down in the 7,000 miles plus miles I've towed Baums Rush, John

Boat Tiedown

I sorta agree with Dave, it's probably not necessary but I've spend so many years towing boats that old habits die hard. What is more important is keeping the mast from swaying from side to side - check this pic for my approach...

Nylon Strap

Not so tight as to sqeeze the hull out of shape but tight. I once had to swerve to avoid about 25' of Sea Ray not attached to a trailer on I-95 just south of Woodbridge, VA. So put a safety chain on the bow eye and a strap across the stern, please it may be me behind you.

I have a Capri16 and I do the same as RWebb

makes me feel secure that the boat is not going bouncy bouncy back there. abe

Strap

I have a strap that goes across the cockpit just behind the companionway. Hooked to the trailer on both sides. Probably do not need it but it makes me feel far more secure. Takes a minute or two to put on and take off so worth the minor hassle.

What size boat is in this picture?

Hi George, I'm surpised to see a "wheel" instead of a "tiller" on a Hunter tralerable boat ! is it a 260, 25, or 24 ? Nice looking boat from what I can see...... more pictures of her ? Glenn PS......I too use the adjustable nylon tie downs, nice and secure.

tie down straps from Home Depot

we use the trailer tie down straps with the big buckles..I know, I know, thats not what they are called, there is a name for them, it just escapes me but they adjust the tension. We strap her at the stern. In the picture, a second strap was used to hold the mast down on the bow. This was the first trip home after purchase. jmp

OUCH !

I see what you mean, I too had a mast break on my 170, only not at my doing, I capsized, THE HABOR PATROL responded and broke the mast while trying to right the boat ! Nice boat, I wish Hunter still made the 260.....oh well Glenn
