Comming home last weekend, I developed a serious tire rub on the underside of the fender. I figure the springs are shot... I think they measure 27 eye to eye, 4 leaves, not sure on lbs capacity. I thought the width was 1 1/2", but all the links are showing 1 3/4" wide. anyone know a soure for replacements? wonder if I can use a 6 plate? http://www.etrailerpart.com/leafsprings.htm http://shop.easternmarine.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=catalog.catalog&categoryID=174 http://shop.easternmarine.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=catalog.prodInfo&productID=5760&categoryID=174

trailer leaf springs

does that mean that 2-springs (one for each side equal 3500#'s total? if so, my suggestion is to install them on top of the axel. that'll give you an additional 3". sure, the boat will sit higher when you launch, therefore, all things being equal...you'll need to back the trailer down the ramp farther into the water to launch the boat. let us know what you decide...

broken spring hanger

well I pulled the trailer out and jacked it up... turns out the hanger broke off... so I'll need to get it rewelded. I've got to decide whether to try and save this one, or just get a new galvanized traier. anyone sandblast their trailer and galvanize it? saltwaters tough of painted steel. http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h169/ftldiver2/MACGREGOR/ecfd14a0.jpg notice the hanger is pressed on the trailer, vs the good side, http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h169/ftldiver2/MACGREGOR/d7c6122d.jpg 000 http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h169/ftldiver2/MACGREGOR/P5050008.jpg

Doesn't look so bad to me

Guess it doesn't look bad to me but I'm an optimist. For me, it would be fine to weld it back on, stronger than new. Then if the cost to dip isn't too bad go ahead. Have you ever tried fish oil primer (Rustoleum used make it) followed by a good heavy enamel paint? I don't think the Mac trailers were primed, and it makes a difference. Good luck on this one. By the way, do any of the ramps have freshwater hose available? Rinsing the moving parts like the spring hangers would go a long way in preserving the trailer imho. Steve P.

Redo your trailor

You can redo your trailer. Upgrade it to a dual axial or just replace your used parts. Check out championtrailers.com. They are located in the south but will deliver nation wide and have wholesale prices. Their sale team is very informative.
