Trailer specs Javelin

A friend of mine has offered me his Oday Javelin. If I can get it out of his yard, it's mine. Both tires are flat and I'm thinking it'll be easier to just get two new wheels with tires mounted rather than taking the old ones off, getting tires mounted and put 'em back on again. So... Does anybody know what type/size wheels I should get? This'll be my very first boat and I've never towed anything so I'm clueless. My friend hasn't used/moved the boat in so many years that he can't remember a thing about it either. I'm also wondering about the hitch. Any idea what size it likely is? Or how to measure it so I get the right thing for my car. (gonna have to get a hitch installed on my '92 Camry, any suggestions there would also be greatly appreciated) Of course, I suppose this is all assuming that the trailer is some sort of standard that came with the Javelin in the first place. Thanks in advance for your help, Wick

old trailer, old wheels

Wick, Ijust bought a 19' Mariner on a trailer. Towing it home I lost a Wheel hub, Wheel and tire. Fortunately I was able to get of the highway without damagng the boat. I have a new Axlw assembly with new hubs coming Gues what. The old Stud pattern on the trailer doesn't fit the new Axle hub. In fact the old stud attern is no longer available. Before you move the trailer check and repack the wheel bearings, replace if necessary. Then I would check the tire size that is on there and if you can find new ones inthat size keep the wheels and have tires mounted. Good Luck

do homework

I have towed many things behind many vehicles all over the country. I bought an oday 23 this summer and towed it 15 miles to my house and It was the scariest drive I have ever had in my life. Check the bearings if it has been sitting. Check the springs, make sure they are not cracked, rusted through, broken and missing. Check the axel itself and the U-bolts that hold the axel to the frame. Tires you can find cheapest online, usually tires and rims already mounted. Get the size tire and rim, bolt pattern etc. from old tires and rims. Ask a friend that has some towing experience to look over the trailer and help you get it into a rolling, usable, and most importantly safe vehicle. I rebuilt my trailer this summer, new axels, brakes, wheels, lights, rollers, etc. Much bigger project than I had expected, however I have an overbuilt trailer that is safe to tow my 23 anyplace. That feeling is priceless and well worth the time I had to put into it. Good luck with the boat, it will be well worth any trailer work you need to do.

Some sort of dolly?

Thanks for the respones and ideas, My friend is getting antsy (he's selling his house) and I don't think I'm gonna have time to do this the right way before the trailer either gets stuck in the frozen ground or covered in snow. So... I got this bright idea to use some kind of rig with wheels that the trailer wheels can sit on top of. Sort of like this thing that U-Haul rents:http://www.uhaul.com/guide/?equipment=towdolly only something that's just the wheels so I'd use the boat trailer's hitch. Anyone got ideas about or experience with such a rig? I'm gonna call U-Haul and other such places now and if I have any luck will post back with the results so others will know. Thanks again, Wick

My Truck??

Wick...The Javelin is only like 12 feet, right? What about we just slide it into the back of my truck (8 foot) bed, tie her down, move her, and haul the trailer empty? I am in Concord and have a alot of time free over this upcoming weekend (Friday would be best). I think we could do it. How far you gotta move it? I got tons of tie downs and think we could do it. Let me know what you think : chris@fernstravel.com
