Finally acquired newer trailer for my '85 222. 2005 5 Starr GVWR: 3690 Torsion axle Equipped with 4 quad rollers. (I spoke with some 222 owners who said 222s originally came with roller trailers.) I was hoping to get some guidance on properly fitting to my 222. Here's my preliminary thoughts: Install 2" x 6" plank for keel covered with glide - ons. Use risers from old trailer bunks to raise roller assemblies to meet hull. Would love to hear from anyone with their 222 cents. Especially concerning placement of rollers.

Roller trailers are great
Chuck, Roller trailers are great if you plan on doing a lot of trailering. I did a lot of trailering for 8 years, but I no longer have the energy to do it. So I've opted for the bunk trailer twice a year, along with a mooring and dreaded bottom paint. Boating is fun, but it gets to be a lot of work sometimes. This year I have a nice stainless steel fold up tote cart that belonged to my late friend Walter. So that should make things a little easier. I should be able to load all my gear in it and make one trip instead of two or three. My son is welding me up a Gin Pole out of 1" stainless steel pipe that comes apart in two pieces. I'll be able to say good by to the oak Gin Pole, or at least stick it in my cellar and keep it for a spare. This new rig will stow easy in my boat under the settees. Speaking of which; I'll probably be splashing her one day next week on the high tide. Smooth Sailing! Joe on the East Coast

That looks like a pretty good set-up for your boat Jon. It looks very similar to the Load-Rite that I had. The only problem I had with my trailer was that you needed to launch on a level ramp, and by that I mean that if one side of my trailer was a little higher than the other side due to sand build up on the ramp, the keel would go off the rollers a little. Outside of that, these trailers were great for these boats. Also, some boats were never made to be hauled with roller trailers such boats as the Catalina 22 and the older Sanibel 17s. The O'Days had stiff hulls and could be trailered with roller or bunk trailers.

HItch extender
For those of us less talented at fabrication, a hitch is available commercially. If you google "Extend a Hitch", it should show up in the first few hits. If the extending tongue on my trailer rusts solid (due to lack of maintenance on my part) one more time, I'm going to buy one of these. At least they are galvanized and will fare better with my level of neglect.
