I have posted pictures of my trailer setup in the photo section
under "Albin Vega 1493".
Basically, what I do is back the trailer up to the ramp, block the
wheels, raise the tongue with the added on wheel jack mechanism in
the front, drive truck forward and hook up a 40 foot nylon strap,
unblock wheels, back trailer into water until "Kemanalea" floats
free. Pulling her out is reverse order.
I painted the whole trailer with Amercoat 2 part expoxy rated for 5
years continuous immersion in salt water. It is the same stuff they
use to paint ship bilges and oil rigs with.
The keel guide folds down to allow for cleaning and painting the
keel. The 8 pads can be lowered for painting and cleaning, as long
as two are left up on each side. Lights are submersible LED,
trailer brakes are electric but I built a flush nozzle for each
wheel that floods the brake drum really well.
The trailer was originally a camper trailer. It has 6000 lb axles.
I added bearing buddies and wire brushed and painted the wheels with
PPG DP epoxy primer and Urethene Automotive white. It is a little on
the heavy side, as it was originally designed for a 32 foot
Islander. When I got rid of the Islander, I re-fit the trailer for
the Vega. I left the trailer jacks from the camper on the four
corners so I can stabilize the trailer during the off season for
working on the boat.
Now I need to streamline the mast lowering procedure so launch and
retrieve can go a lot faster. Any questions, send me an email off
