Has anyone made any useful modification to the 18.5 trailer which increase the success of centering the boat properly? We sometimes have problems but have yet to devise a suitable improvement.
Check the archives, Mike Epp sent me some pics of what he did on his h23, looked simple and effective, he may have posted them in archive photos , easier to see then explain, if u cant find check back here and I can put in touch with him, good luck Mike B
I read your post and the response but could not find the archive- Did you find it? I could use some of the same assistance in centering the boat on the trailer- Thanks
I had so much difficulty in centering the boat on the trailer in the past that I came up with an idea that worked well when I used it last year. I took two fairly heavy planks (2 X 10) and set them so that they formed a Vee from the spot where the keel sits back to the two rear struts. I used U-bolts to attache the planks to the trailer and used enough of them to ensure that it is rigid. Now when the boat is being brought onto the trailer I attach the winch cable to the bow and winch the boat onto the trailer. The planks ensure that the keel ends up where it belongs. I used 2 X 10s so that the keel would never be high enough to ride over the planks as that would pose a problem. If you email me at pkozup@juno.com and give me your address I'll be glad to send you photos of the arrangement. I'm sorry that I have no way of sending photos over the web or I'd be glad to do that. It is a problem, and I once found the boat was so far off center that I needed a tow truck to lift the bow and center it on the trailer before I could take the boat and trailer out of the water. Otherwise the boat would have fallen off the trailer onto its side. Not a pretty thought!!
Peter has offered to send me some pictures of his modifications via snail mail. When I receive them, I will scan and post in the photo forum. It sounds like he has a good fix.ChrisS/V Cassiopeia
