Trailer launching an Ericson 26

I'm trailer launching my newly acquired '70 E26 the weekend after labor day. I intend to use the good old "block the trailer wheels and extend the truck/trailer linkage with a stout line, haul the trailer up the ramp a foot, remove blocks and submerge trailer" method to get her into the water. Does anyone have any horror stories using this method? My local club is full of experienced sailors, but I'd like to be prepared for anything that may arise. Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

Cradle for ericson 27

I have a cradle for an Ericson 27. (1977) I got it when I bought the boat and really have no use for it.If you want to come and pick it up you can have it.

Too far

Thanks for the offer, but I'd rather spend my free time riding the wind ;). I appreciate the offer. I'm not quite sure how a cradle would assist a trailer launch tho - care to elaborate?

It worked for me

Ken - I always used to do it that way (but with a smaller boat.) Recovered her the same way, too. The only caveats obvious to me are that the ramp might be too steep(allowing the whole rig to get away from you), or too shallow (making it really hard to get it in deep enough to float the boat off); and that it ties the ramp up for a longer time than just backing the rig in conventionally. You will not be able to 'steer' the trailer into the water, but that is not a problem if it is lined up well to start with.

Easy as could be

Well the transport and long line launch went off without a hitch! The trailer was balanced perfectly, and she floated without a problem. We'll see how the retrieval goes next month!

Fantastic!

But that sure is a strange looking storm jib you have up front. By the way, how did she sail?
