Does anyone have an opionion on the best system of trailer guides for an O'day 222 ? I have found that in the muddy waters and uneven boat ramps of SE Texas that pulling my 222 (with a centerboard trunk) onto the keel rollers of my trailer is almost impossible - sometimes actually missing an entire roller. There are two systems I am considering - vertical guide posts at the end of the trailer vs. V-positioned bunk boards positioned low to guide the centerboard trunk to the center of the rollers. Does anyone have any experience or suggestions as to which way to go - I can't afford them both ! Jim

keel guides

I have two 2x6 treated lumber tapered from approx. 1.5at the end for approx. 2 feet towards the bow. They are a close fit to the keel so that the keel is always centered on the rollers.the board are approx. 6 inches above the rollers. In the three years I have had this set up I have never had a problem loading.

Hey Harley, any pictures

I need to do something like that with my OD20 trailer. Any pictures would be appreciated. There's a picture of my boat on the trailer on link below. MArk

Keel Guides

Hey Mark, like Harley, for my OD25 trailer I also have 2X6"s bolted to a rail that is attached to the bottom keel support. This guides the keel onto the keel suport, and centres the boat over the bunk boards. From your pic, could you bolt a guide to those 3 bunk board supports, a few inches wider than the keel itself? You may have to make a frame and bolt that on to the bunk supports to bring the keel guides out closer to the centre. I would speak to a welder/fabricator, or someone who builds trailers custom to see if they could weld a support braket on. Don
