How to size the PVC
Here's how I sized the PVC I added to my 26X trailer. Pull one of the rubber caps off the existing goal posts. Take that cap to the hardware store. Find a piece of PVC that the cap fits on. THIS IS NOT THE PVC YOU WILL PURCHASE. Take this PVC pipe and use it to find a PVC pipe that the first pipe will fit inside. THIS SECOND PIPE IS THE ONE YOU WANT. I purchased a 10-foot section and cut it in half. You might also want to get some end caps for the PVC pipe. It looks cleaner. But if you add the caps, be sure to drill a hole in the top of the cap to allow air to escape, otherwise you might shoot your extended goalposts in the air as the inner tube fills with water.Since I have done this, I have been able to back the trailer far enough in to prevent any further damage (there's a story there if you are interested) to the boat or trailer. For best results, back the trailer into the water until the "Vee" at the front of the trailer is just above, or at the water line. This makes putting the boat on the trailer a snap. Here's another tip: When dealing with a cross wind, tie a 25-foot dock line between the winch post on the trailer to each goalpost. Tie on the goalpost as high as possible. Now, bring your boat in nice and slow. The lines will guide your boat right into the slot. Remember, GO SLOW.
