Hi all,
I am considering buying a 1973 23ft popper top but it has no trailer. Can anyone give me suggestions on what type of trailer to look for or how to rig up a regular trailer for this boat ?
Also I am a beginner, do you think this boat is hard or easy to learn to sail on ?
Thanks,
John

Hi roadstarmedic, if you purchase the boat...please post some photos of the pop top both inside and out. I love the concept, have not seen many of them in photos.
Good luck on the trailer. I assume it is a shoal draft which meens most of the weight rests on the keel, the rollers or boards on the underneath sides pretty much just prop it up to keep it from falling over.
I think it would be a great boat to learn on on!

John,
Bare in mind that the O'Day 23's prior to 1974 had keel issues. The keels were made of cast iron and would rust, causing the centerboard to get stuck up inside the keel slot. The later model O'Day 23's have lead keels and no issues with the centerboards. The O'Day 23 is one of the best boats that O'Day ever built according to Rudy Nickerson of D&R Marine, but the earlier models did have these issues according to Rudy. For more info on this, give him a call.
