We are buying a 1995 Hunter 23.5 and we need to know the trailer weight or combined boat/trailer weight w/ ballast empty. Does anyone know?

EMPTY Boat and Trailer, #3,000

An empty boat that means no motor, gas, tools, anything is #2,000 the trailer is #980.

I've always figured about 4,000 lb with motor, fuel, potable water, food, cooler & family stuff for a week, and a little safety margin. Note that this would put it over the 3,500 lb rating of the single axle of the trailer. Also, if you're looking for a tow vehicle, don't forget that you will have to tow the boat at least part of the way up the ramp with 1,000 lb of ballast in the ballast tank. This will only deal with the "beefiness of the tow vehicle and not the safety/handling on the highway, but should still be a consideration.

Personally, I think the empty boat and trailer (single axel) is around 3000#. However, add on all the goodies with motor, cooler, supplies, etc and you're in the neighborhood of 3600-4000# for sure. When I considered buying this boat, I read everything and every review I could get my hands on. Finally, decided on a double axel trailer.....thank heavens I did!! If you have a choice, get the double axel or add it on. To be safe, figure the weight at 4000# and even 5000# on the ramp when coming out of the water. I'm pulling mine with a Nissan Frontier V6 4X4 and it works great. Maybe too much info, but thought you might like to know!!!

Estimates are just that. Why not run it across a scale? No trailer? Like people, boats gain weight over time. You can't rely on manufacturer published data.

More on this at: http://h260.com/travel/travel.html

I always recommend for trailerables that the purchaser require the seller to provide a certified weigh ticket. That will give the purchaser enough info to determine if his vehicle is adequate for towing.
