Trailer advice

Hey,

I have failed to find a used trailer to move my Vega. That means that I will have to fork out the bucks to have one made.

Does anyone know who makes good sailboat trailers? Best bang for the buck?

Thanks

Where are you located? I'm in Southern Cal and just acquired a tandem axle trailer that is set up for a Vega. I'm open to leasing it.BruceS/v Cygnet#169From: hern_104@...To: AlbinVega@yahoogroups.comDate: Tue, 17 Dec 2013 00:36:13 +0000Subject: [AlbinVega] Trailer advice

Here is a posibility. You might be able to buy a flat bed farm
trailer used and buy marina stands and weld the bases to the
trailer. Might need a wide piece of Channel iron or two pieces of
angle iron welded down to keep the keel from slideing side to side
Be sure the trailer is rated for the weight and has breaks. I live
in farm country and I see them fairly often for sale. Strap her
fore and aft so she can't slid if you stop. Doug

I can't recall where you are located. I had a trailer made by Custom Sailboat Trailers & Yacht Trailers | Triad Trailers in North Carolina USA. I'm not sure I could really tell a good trailer from a potato chip but I believe they make very good trailers. Hot dip galvanized. I controlled the cost by not including the structure and gear to enable self-launching. I therefore *must* use a travel-lift or the like to launch. If North Carolina is a possibility for you I suggest calling Mike Orro (see their website) and see if you are interested. IIRC they were 1 week late because the weight distributing hitch I ordered thru them was delayed. I found it advantageous to get gear like the hitch thru them.

Trailers save a lot of storage fees if you can park it in your driveway or backyard. I built mine using an old double axle ShoreLander (?) powerboat trailer and a $500 of steel. It has saved me thousands over the years. Good investment. Forget the trailer. Just hire a boat hauler to deliver it for you.

I also like the idea that I can haul my boat inland out of the way of any hurricanes threatening our shoreline. Mine was built by Triad. Got it in Connecticut. If you do get one, be sure to get sway bars!DrusieDrusie Sheldon
