We sail a Catalina 25 on L Roosevelt in Arizona (25 miles long). We store the fully rigged boat upon and launch from the trailer. The swing keel draft is 2"11". It is really not a problem. As I would like a larger boat yet, loath the prospect of bottom paint and slip fees, has anyone used a trailer to store the 28' upon and launch it? The draft is not much greater than a Capri 26 of which there are several at our lake. Thanks for your help Tim

Yes you can load and launch from a trailer. Are you planning on keeping the boat in the water or pulling out every weekend? I have a trailer for my fin keel 30 with 5'.3" draft. You would need a good size truck to handle a 28.

Towing
I suspect the biggest issue would be the tow vehicle. that's a lot of weight to haul. But I know of a couple poeple who use trailers for boat around 30'... however, they don't move them around every weekend.

Use of a trailer-able 28
Thank you both for the response. No, we will not tow it around anywhere other than the boatyard itself. Yes, we launch and load each weekend. We live 2 hours away from the boat. The reason I am not considering the 30 (love to have one) is that you must separate the trailer from the tow vehicle to launch and retrieve. The yard does have a tractor-tow launch service if your truck is underpowered. But, they will not separate the rig and I don't blame them for that matter. I have seen friends use a Suburban to reteive their Cat 30 fro bottom paint, repairs etc. But it looks to be a pain in the... My hope is the shoal draft 28 is more manageable.

c28 or c30 trailering
Tim, The wing/shoal keel of the c28 or c30 is 3' 10" and the difference is only about 1500lbs so they both will be about as hard to launch and retrieve. Have you checked the c28 web site ? Someone has a trailer for sail now I beleive. Stan
