I was at tractor supply this past weekend, and they have low mantence (screw capped) tractor batteries that have 6 cells (12V) and are about the same size as the golf cart batteries. I looked at them and they are supposed to be vibration protected (yada yada yada). They were listed as 3T size if I remember correctly. So has anyone ever used these as house batteries? Having a smaller boat, I am just looking to upgrade one of my 24's to something like this to give me that extra couple of amps over night. BTW these were only $73 per.

If you don't have the room to put in a couple of golf cart batteries, just march down to the nearest wally world. get you one of the group 31 max marind deep cycles. They are 65 bucks, and have a free 18 month replacement warranty, no questions asked. During Katrina, my wind generator mast snapped, and the generator went into the water. A dead short for five months. Needless to say the batteries were shot. Took them back to Wally World, and told them what happened. NO PROBLEM The batteries were 13 months old. I walked out with two new ones, without spending a dime. Makes one wonder about just making a direct short across them at about 13 or 14 months and go get some new ones.

Have tried tow motor batteries, truck batteries, golf cart batteries, gel cell, and the new agm cell. You cannot do better than Trojan golf cart T-102 6 volt batteries. You use two in series to make 12 volts. These are the best thing going. Not sure what the price is but seems like about 60 dollars each the last time I checked. You will not be sorry switching to these batteries if you have the room for them.

Yes, 200 AH would be fantastic. The only problem is the $470+ price tag. Currently I have 2 group 24's in the boat. To this day, I have yet to run out of juice, but I am ultra conservative about it. If my research is correct a group 24 has about 50 AH. That being said, if I can find a reasonably way to get up to 100 AH for under $200 I may think about it, around 100 and heck I might start thinking of where to hide 2 of them. Part of my problem is converting between the CCA and AH. I know they measure different things, but there has to be a "rule of thumb" for conversion. I was looking at the tractor batteries as they are on sale for 73. and they are 2' X 1' X 1'

Gota agree with kennyH. Trogens are a good battery. Seen these banging around in golf carts for years. http://shop.altenergystore.com/ I think you can do better than $470 here. It was under batteries - flooded cell batteries on the second page of items.

J 150 or j185 good options
Looking at the spec's from them the J185 is almost the same price as 1 t105 and very close to the AH ratings. The only difference is the 185 is 12V so you only need to purchase 1. Hmmmm.... One of the main reasons I am trying to avoid multiple batteries is that I only have a 27'er so space is a premium.
