TP-22 vs ST2000+

Looking at a tiller pilot, While I would prefer a below deck model, I think it's out of my budget.

I have seen plenty of people endorsing the ST2000+, as well as many people saying they liked their TP-22 too.

so, start the debate, pros and cons of each unit, why would you suggest one over the other. I don't need to hear stories about how you like one, unless it's in comparison against the other. I know most people who have one are happy with it, I just want to understand which is the better choice.

Also to add, I've searched the forum and found very little dicsussion between the two models, but if I missed it and someone has a link to previous conversation, I'd apprecieate the link.

FourPoints, for what it's worth, I have the ST2000, and it works flawlessly. I wish I could compare it to the TP-22, but that's not the case, I've never laid eyes on one. But the install was TOO easy, and like I said, it performs like I expected in every regard.
No doubt that you have probably researched this endlessly, (I know that I did), but for the exception of one marine supplier that popped up on Amazon, Defender had them all beat on price. And I like ordering from a reputable company despite what the product brand name is for a couple of reasons. The only "problem" with this thing is, the extensions. And by that I mean price. I had to have a 4", and a 5" to make it work like I had in mind on a C22, and at 22 dollars apiece for those silly little pieces of metal, that kind of hurt. The distance from point to point is important, dictating them necessary.
Other than that, if I couldn't get another one of them, I wouldn't take 2 thousand dollars for it..

I had hoped for a few more responses than this. Does no-one out there have direct experience with both units? the specs on the Simrad unit seem slightly better, while the Raymarine is more common, and has a wireless remote option vs the wired on the Simrad.

How about problems experienced with either model?

Brian, I sense some frustration on your part. Have you considered asking the same question on other forums, like the C25 group, Sailnet, crusiersforum and others? If you widen the audience, you might get more feedback. It would be rare for someone to have experience with both, as you said in your OP. My guess is the best you'd get is someone who had one of them and didn't much like it. Good luck.
