According to the Oday literature, the minimum trailering weight of an Oday 23 is 3085lbs. Add the weight of any equipment on the boat (like an outboard, sails, fuel, batteries, gear) plus the weight of the trailer itself, and my guess would be that you would be over your 3300 lb. limit. If the boat is cheap enough, it would be worth it to rent a full-size pickup or van to tow your new boat. Make sure whatever vehicle you use has a real towing package (big radiator, heavy duty brakes, big ol' gas-sucking 8 cylinder engine). There are also companies that exist solely to transport boats. This being the off season, you might get a price break. BTW, the Oday 23 is a great boat; you're gonna love it.

Chevy K2500

Malik...I tow my O23 with a 1998 full size Chevy 2500 King Cab with a long bed. You could not pay me to tow it with a Volvo of that size. That would be like towing it with my wifes Subaru Outback that has the H-6 motor. Believe me, I know I am towing that boat with my truck. I think towing it with the Volvo is trouble waiting to happen. Don't want to sound so negative on here, but I really think it would be to dangerous with that car. As Mike said, you are really going to love that boat, as I do mine, but first order here is to get her home in one peice. You are so ahead of the game by getting one for free (with trailer I assume), so take the money saved and move her safely home.

Towing

Totally agree with the previous post. I tow my 23 with a F150 SC 1/2 ton 2 wheel drive. It does have the factory tow package. More importantly you must have functioning trailer brakes. Make sure the trailer has them. Most states require them on trailers rated at specific weights. Locate a friend, relative or rent an adequate vehicle that is setup for trailering. As Chris mentioned, you'll know it's behind you every mile you drive. My truck handles it fine, I keep my speed at 55-60 and always leave twice as much room for stopping. You'll love the boat.

Consensus

I agree with all that's been written. You might could get the boat moving down the road, but I would be more concerned about getting it to stop. Borrow a friend's big pickup (rental companies will not rent a truck if you plan to tow), or pay a buddy to go with you, or hire it out. Good luck.

Oday 23 Montana
A Point of Reference

I have an 80 O'day 23 on a EzeLoader tandem axle roller trailer. When I weighed it last spring (w/o outboard, fuel or onboard water but w/ sails, boom, and gear) it weighed in at (drum roll, please) #4027. I weighed the trailer tongue weight at #375. I pull it with a 1998 GMC 1500 with 5.7L and automatic transmission. It pulls it fine through the mountains of Montana, but, make sure your trailer brakes are working. The O'day 23 is a great boat. Enjoy!

Rent a Truck

Rent a Truck or SUV, but dont mention Towing. All Chevy Trailblazers have a class 3 hitch. I rented one last week to pick up a trailer. 650 miles, 23 hours, $60.00. Dont forget to mention your AAA discount ;)

Trailer

Malik, I have a 1983 O'23 and tow her with a Dakota 4X4 with ease. My concern for you is the condition of the trailer with the distance you need to tow. I agree with Chris about taking your savings and using the money to have the boat "safely" towed to N.C. I'd recommend giving Jerry a call since he mentioned having a trailer available. If you've noticed, all the responses have a similar ring to them: we all love our 23's. I wish you fair winds, Terry
