Towing through OR around Atlanta?

We tow a Precision 23 from Michigan to Florida and back every year. For the past several years we have taken the western by-pass on I-75. I'm curious if anyone has any actual experience driving straight through Atlanta vs taking the by-pass?

(And for majorkong1, the Precision 23 trailer weighs 1000 pounds.)

Trust me, as a former truck driver, it's a crap shoot either way.
Between 6:15am and 9:15 am and Between 3:15 pm and 6:45 pm go the straight through route. Otherwise take I-285.
(During the start of the, "flatten the curve", inanity and for weeks after, we were running 80mph at all times! Nobody was working but essential people!)

The big difference between driving straight through and taking the loop is there are fewer trucks driving straight and fewer on ramps and exits.

The big headache is folks getting on cutting in front of you and folks getting off cutting in front of you.

Where in FLA?

Jackhart, Thanks. The times seem counter intuitive to me. I would have thought people would be going to work from 6 to 9, and going home from 3 until 7, so more traffic into or out of Atlanta at those times.

I guess that makes sense, though I think the Florida drivers are the worst for cutting across lanes, especially to exit.

Punta Gorda on Charlotte Harbor - specifically Burnt Store Marina.

I'd rather drive on the Long Island Expressway during commuting times than I-95 in South Florida just about anytime. After the civil engineers screwed up New Jersey roads they retired to Florida and set about screwing up Florida roads. 95 forces a driver to change lanes an inordinate amount of times because lanes end or merge. It is almost impossible to drive in one lane and mind you own business - something trailerers would like to do. Not to mention the amateur stock car drivers running in and out of traffic. 25% of Florida drivers are uninsured according to to insurance sources.
On the LIE I've seen six lanes of commuter traffic come to a stop to let a goose lead her her goslings across six lanes and a median. In Florida they would have been a pile of feathers.

Those are the folks who moved down here from New York and New Jersey

They all seem to think 8" off the bumper of the car in front of them is an appropriate following distance

South of Chattanooga you could take US-27 to Albany then US-19 into Florida thereby skipping Atlanta and the worst part of I-75 in Florida. It adds some time but is way more relaxing a trip. We use that route when time permits. It is nice to get off the interstate sometimes.
