dinghy on transom

I did this with my 29.5 and a 9 ft inflatable-it worked, but boy was it ugly! also created a lot of windage, and blocked the swim platform

We use the Weaver Dinghy Davits with our Avon

Dave, et.al., I've put the Weaver dinghy davits on the stern of my H380 and have sailed with the dinghy up for about a year now. There are pictures in the photo forum if you want to look. The only negative things that I have encounted is that you can't heal way over because the bow or stern of the dinghy catches water. But that is not a problem with the 380 as it likes to be sailed upright. When we tie Mediterranean style, we just drop the dinghy into the water and bring it around to the box before backing down. The positives are no diesel exhuste in the cockpit, warmer down wind, don't have to worry about waves filling it up, no rain in it and easy to dump extra water that does get into it, firm footing when getting into the dinghy with the davits still attached, and I believe it dampens the wave action so there is less or no wave slap on the big boat. Hope this helps.

Towing a Rowboat

I sometimes tow a 9 foot old-fashioned flat-bottomed plywood rowboat, built in 1936 behind my C22. Not the prettiest outfit, but it sure perfoms well. Easy to enter on the water, easy to row to shore and easy to beach. Towing by a single line from one transom cleat works well in mild wind, with line attached to a bow eye, and long enough to trail slightly behind first wave. But when the wind picks up the rowboat will fish-tail so needs to be secured quite close to the C22 transom. This best done before chop gets too big as otherwise one really has a handful caring for two boats at once.

Price of the Dingy Tow

Sorry this took so long to get back to you. We ordered our Dingy Tow directly from Davron Marine Products for $895. Don't remember how much the shipping was. I added a link to their web site. Hope this helps.

close up

I tow a 8.7 inflatable behind my 29.5 by snubbing polypropalene line tight to the stern cleats. The dingy actually rides up about 2-3" onto the swimplatform at no speed, but when sailing it is dragged about 2-3" from boat. Rides well, good control, Bring it in tight.
