Astro / Safari

I am on my second Astro/Safari van. The first was a 1994 Safari and the second is a 2005 Astro. The manufacture says the Vortec™ 4300 V6 is good for towing ar good for towing about 5000lbs RWD. I have pulled a loaded 21 V-21 all over the Carolinas vor about 20 years and then up to Indiana where the boat currently lives. I have never had any problems the truck on the ramp or on the highway. When towing a trailer, alway observer trucker rules, the trip will be much nicer.

Thanks...

I checked out the truck pretty good... I bought it... No milk in the oil.....Milky oil is probablly the biggest issue with these vehicles. My Astro nut buddy says that if it has 95 k and no antifreeze in the oil that the intake gasket has PROBABLY already been fixed. will probably add the transmission cooler.... even tho the factory tow package does not have one... per my buddy the asto nut. tires wearing ok.. brakes were smooth. THANKS. earl

astro away

i have a macgregor 26d....... 2 summers ago i towed it to prescott, az..my new home and then up to british columbia and back ...the hard way........over the tetons and the canadian rockies..... i sailed a lot in the interior but mostly on the inside passage around quadra and cortez islands and i will go back this year to do the whole inside passage. i had a 2000 astro and i am sorry i sold it. it was the perfect towing vehicle and even got compliments from a cop in the tetons who wanted to give me a ticket because my trailer did not have plates ...didn't need any since i had moved from a state that does not require them. the astro is one of the best all around vehicles on the road except i needed 4 wheel drive for arizona..... anyhow....take your 26s anywhere you want and be sure to use low coming down steep grades and click off your overdrive............surge or electric brakes make a big difference.... good luck, gary

I tow an X with a 94 Astro AWD with 227000 miles. No problems so far, cross your fingers and knock on wood.

Thanks for all the info...

Thanks for all the info.. for the AZ guy that needs 4WD, there are GREAT BUYS in late model Astro 4wd vans in the South East for around 4000$. That v8 conversion would be tempting if my van 4.3 ever conks out. earl
