I need to ask this question: Can a Grand Cherokee with 4.0l tow a Oday 25? The trailer has dual axles, with brakes. I have experience towing a Catalina 22 but moving up to a 25 brings a whole new set up concerns. Any inputs would be appreciated. Thanks!!

Towing with a Grand Cherokee 6 cyl.
It depends on the total weight of your O'Day 25 and trailer and motor and gear, etc. You should be able to pull at least a 2500 lb. combined weight (if not more) as long as the trailer tongue weight is under 150 lbs or so. You can check with a Chrysler dealer parts or service dept. and they should give the exact maximum allowable weights.

Caution
My partner has the Grand Cherokee. We've had a lot of problems with the transmission. Its an 86 she bought new and the transmission has been replaced. If you intend to trailer often or far or in hills I'd look to buy something with more power. We don't have a hitch on her jeep but shes a gardener and fills the back end with bags of mulch a couple of times a year. My 25 stays in the water year round so we've never tried to tow with the jeep. mike

Hi Dan, I have a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee Inline 6 4L with 125k miles on it and a 1979 Oday 25. I towed my swing keep Oday 25 twice over the summer, each trip being 100 miles from my home to the marina. I can say that it is a bit of a struggle and would not recommend it unless it is on flat ground or just around town. Put it this way I will not be trailering next summer, Ill pay to have it stored at the marina for a few hundred dollars on the trailer. I believe the boat was right at the towing capacity of the car. Another important thing to consider if you tow is to be sure that you dont have too much tongue weight. The unibody cherokee doesnt seem to like too much weight on the hitch and it tows alot better if most of the weight is over the axles of the trailer. Good luck!!

Over weight
I have a 4.0l Grand Cherokee with which I tow my O 23. The vehicle will tow 5,000lb according to Jeep. I believe the O 25 displaces around 4,800lb dry. That doesn't leave much margin for the weight of the traier and other "stuff". FYI - The V8 Jeep will pull 6,500lb. Chris
