This 22 ft Catalina has been stored at a marina for a number of years and I am bringing it home to clean up and repair. I drive a 6 cylinder Ford Taurus station wagon and am trying to determine if towing it home will be a problem handling and weight wise. The trip is about 4 hours on well paved road, moderate terrain. I have no idea what the boat and trailer weigh. Any experience towing this size or a similar boat?

no way

I just had to have mine towed 2 hours and had a friend's Cevy Surburban and it was the longest 2 hours of my life.

I would check the towing weight and the tounge weight. My old Hunter only weighed about two thousand pounds and I would never go over 50mph. I only had about an hour and half to reach the launch point, though. Four hours is quite different. Does your car have the towing package and the 3.8L V6? Towing will really put a strain on your brakes, rear shocks, and transmission. If you beef up your wagon in those areas, I would think it wouldn't be too bad. Another thing to think about, though, is the conditions at the ramp. How much water do you need before the boat will float off the trailer? Also, what is the condition of the ramp itself? A gravelly or rough surface on the ramp will make pulling the boat back out of the water more difficult. Good luck. Les Murray s/v Ceilidh '86 C-36 #560
