In light of the tragedy we experienced here of the three children that drowned on the 4th of July in a capsized boat. I thought it was time to shine the light on some heroes that did their best, beyond what was ever expected of them.
The Bayville, Oyster Bay fire companies responded as well as Nassau County Marine Bureau. But there was another responder too.
Mitch Kramer of Tow Boat US arrived on scene and according to reports dove in the water with a airline from his boat in a attempt to get to the kids in the cockpit.
This to me is huge. Yes the fire department and police divers where on the way but this guy tried while there was still that slim hope they could be saved.
Earlier that day Mitch also had rescued a down Bald Eagle which has been named Indy, short for independence day.
I am sure that July 4th 2012 will go down as one of the most dramatic days in his life. I just wanted to take a moment and let the boating community know that yes there are real life heroes out there amongst us. And not everyone of them is wearing a PD or FD uniform.
