Toronto Boat Show

Just got back from the Toronto Boat Show.

Maybe 12 sailboats at the most. Mainly the new Catalina's, which aren't bad looking. They have gone back to having an alum toe rail while the others haven't.
The new Jenneau lineup was there. 2 Beneteaus's, A couple of Hanse's, Some Hunters and that's about it.

The new Furling Spinnakers units were there, Seldon and Profurl. Seldon's is about $1000 cheaper than the profurl.

Lot's of Insurance companies. More than last year.

The most noticible market increase is the number of pontoon boats. They used to be in a secluded area not that long ago. They are all over the show floors sporting 250HP outboards.

We even met Duma the Surfing dog while having lunch. A very quite Jack Russel Terrier and friendly to boot considering I don't think he liked the goggles and helmet he was wearing.

Thanks to Finding41 for the tickets, the wife enjoyed the show.

Wasn't Delphia at display? Unfortunately I cannot make it to the show this year, but I don't believe North Lakes Yachting did not have at least two models on display - Delphia 46CC was supposed to have its Canadian premiere. As far as I know also TES Yachts was displaying their Magnam 28, the smaller 720BT did not make it to the show as it was sold.

I didn't see any Delphia's. There were some nice flowers

I just checked the show maps, nothing. North Lakes Yachting was there at booth 1506. Small booth between the Beneteau's and Atlantic Challenge Canada.

No Pictures. I only take pictures when I see something that I can Adapt to my boat.

you ought to take the time to go to the Chicago Strictly Sail show at the end of January. Even the venders are fun to visit because almost all are oriented to sail. Might be worth the trip.

I went on Thursday.
Did you see the 28' Tes trailer sailor? It was on the trailer beside the Beneteau 30. Those two were my favorites.
I was very disappointed with the Hunter 33e. I had high expectations because of the awards it got last year.
I got some good deals on a few things and found suppliers that I hadn't found on line. (Kind of surrounded by land here in London Ont.)
I took some pictures I'll try and put some up later. Like Joker... mostly things I want to copy for my boat.

Forgive me, but I am going to be a pissant. I have found these winter boat shows to be very low on fun boats to look at. Booths are good, hanging with sailors is good, but boat displays suck. We have all seen plenty of Cats, Hunters, Bennys, Jeannaus. How many more do we need to see? We know what these boats, all good, are all about.

If I recall the Hunter e33, I had trouble getting into the rear cabin because the door was undersized, width wise. I believe it was the Hunter but they all started to blur into one mass of boats after a while.

I was talking to one of the vendors there and he said it was the busiest he's seen all week. To me there weren't that many people there. It was easy to get on and off the boats.

I picked Thursday to attend for a couple of reasons. 1 Free weekday tickets. 2 Who goes on a Thursday? Not allot of people crowding the boats when I was there either.
3 Great for getting questions answered. 4 *The venders had more time to drop prices! I got really good deals on the things I purchased. I had the same question for every vender. "Can you knock 15 off the price?" At least half the time there answer was yes!

Wife and I went on Wednesday. Yes it seemed that the stinkboats had encroached a bit and there seemed to be a bit less sail-oriented displays.

But, it's a rite of the Canadian boating scene, if you're stuck here in the cold and haven't made it to the snowbird fleet. It shortens the winter, gets me thinking about pre-launch projects. And it's a good opportunity to get the year's best price on something new. We generally make a quick visit to the big sailboat displays, check out the marine market, and have a nice stroll around. Usually about 3 hours, tops.

There's usually good deals on things like boat shoes.This year my wife found a low-priced coastal jacket, and I got a "show" price on a Davis sextant.

It sure seems the Toronto boat show caters to the power boat crowd. As was mentioned seems the same sail boats and lots more pontoon party boats. If you have a few days to kill I suggest the Annapolis strickly sail show in October. Best show I've been to and got 20% off my BVI bareboat charter. The one good thing about the Toronto show is getting some good deals on stuff.

I spoke with one of the vendors. Apparently the dealers were only allowed up to 4 boats. Making room for more dealers. In this case more power boat dealers.
